Digital Accessibility Associate

The Mission:
We believe information should be accessible to everyone. We are seeking a detail-oriented Digital Accessibility Associate to help transform PDFs into fully compliant, accessible documents. Your work will ensure equal access to critical government resources for all users, including individuals using assistive technologies.
What Success Looks Like

  • Own document remediation efforts to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA and PDF/UA standards.
  • Improve accessibility for users relying on screen readers and assistive technologies.
  • Remove accessibility barriers by correcting document structure, reading order, tagging, and alt text.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Remediate and repair accessibility issues in PDF documents.
  • Add semantic structure and accessibility tags to documents.
  • Ensure proper reading order and navigation for screen readers.
  • Create and maintain alternative text for images and non-text elements.
  • Validate compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA and PDF/UA standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve document accessibility workflows.

Required Qualifications
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software tools quickly.
  • Comfortable working within compliance-driven environments.
  • Experience using business software applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS and web accessibility concepts.
  • Familiarity with ADA Title II and WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Grackle.
  • Accessibility certifications such as IAAP CPACC.
Logistics
  • Location: Remote flexibility available after initial onsite training.
  • Training: 1-2 weeks onsite at the Department of Revenue.
  • Duration: Full-time, 3-month assignment.
