Description:

Position Summary

As our Truss Estimator, you will play a key role in supporting our project pipeline by producing accurate and timely cost estimates for truss packages and related framing material. You will work closely with sales, production, engineering, and suppliers to translate building plans into detailed material take-offs and cost projections. We are willing to train a motivated individual who has aptitude for numbers, construction concepts, and a desire to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review architectural and structural drawings and specifications to determine truss and framing system requirements.
  • Perform material take-offs for roof and floor trusses, lumber, hardware, sheathing, and related framing components.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (sales, production, manufacturing/engineering) and external vendors to gather cost and lead-time data.
  • Prepare detailed estimates including material cost, labor hours, subcontractor pricing (if applicable), freight and handling, and overhead.
  • Present estimates in a structured format for review and approval, monitor revisions, and update as project scope or design changes.
  • Maintain an estimating database and price book to track historical costs, vendor pricing, and project margins.
  • Assist with bid follow-ups, clarification requests, and change-order estimating when necessary.
  • Maintain productivity and accuracy in a fast-paced environment; provide clear documentation and reports.
  • Continuously learn and improve estimating processes, software tools, and knowledge of truss and framing systems.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certificate in construction technology, engineering, or related field is a plus.
  • Some prior exposure to construction, framing/truss manufacturing, or building materials preferred (but not required given that training is provided).
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills; comfortable working with spreadsheets (Excel) and measuring/quantifying materials from drawings.
  • Basic familiarity with reading blueprints, construction drawings (architectural/structural) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple estimating assignments concurrently.
  • Good communication skills to interact with vendors, internal teams, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to learn estimating software tools and manufacturing/engineering terminology.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to thrive in a dynamic team environment.
