Responsibilities

  • Build trust and respect among team members while effectively communicating relevant information.
  • Foster collaboration and promote teamwork to reach company and store objectives.
  • Set performance goals for the department and empower associates to meet or exceed them.
  • Schedule team members adequately to manage customer volume during operating hours.
  • Train and mentor associates on job performance and participate in performance appraisals.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal laws as well as company policies.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for customers and inform them about bakery specials while recommending items to enhance their shopping experience.
  • Stay informed about the products sold in the department and provide accurate information to customers.
  • Prepare bakery items according to customer requests and utilize proper bakery equipment, offering product samples to encourage exploration of new items.
  • Ensure customers receive fresh products in the correct portion sizes to minimize waste.
  • Utilize bakery equipment in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Partner with store management to develop and execute a department business plan that drives results.
  • Prepare seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor.
  • Keep updated on current and upcoming promotions and share this information with associates.
  • Monitor and control departmental expenses effectively.
  • Assist in preparing the store budget and conducting profit and loss reviews, taking action based on financial reports.
  • Manage routine price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional displays.
  • Organize and supervise the inventory control process.
  • Adhere strictly to food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Implement safety programs by complying with safety protocols and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Engage in proactive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting necessary repairs.
  • Inform management of any customer or employee accidents.
  • Report all safety risks and illegal activities, including theft or fraud.
  • Maintain composure in a fast-paced and sometimes high-stress environment.
  • Resolve conflicts in a constructive and non-confrontational manner.
  • Act with integrity when handling customer and business information.
  • Follow directions carefully and seek help to address customer and business issues when necessary.
  • Provide support and assistance to all customers, including minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
  • This position requires the ability to perform all essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Basic math knowledge
  • Aptitude for handling stressful situations
  • A current food handler's permit upon employment

Desired Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous management experience
  • Experience in a bakery or similar environment
