Description of Position

We are seeking a dependable and customer-oriented individual to join our team as a Cashier at the community college cafeteria. The cashier will play a key role in providing exceptional service to students, faculty, and staff as they handle transactions and maintain a positive dining experience. This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner, ensuring a positive dining experience.
  • Accurately process cash, credit, and debit card transactions using a cash register or POS (point of sale) system.
  • Handle cash with precision, making change accurately and maintaining a balanced cash drawer at all times.
  • Ensure prices are accurately entered into the system and resolve any discrepancies or errors promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cashier station and surrounding areas, including dining area and servery.
  • Monitor inventory levels of supplies, such as cash register rolls, receipt paper, and utensils, and notify the supervisor when reordering is necessary.
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper handling of cash and following health code regulations.
  • Stay updated on new menu items, promotions, and any changes in pricing or policies.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
This position may include responsibilities with the Facilities Department or Prescott Pines Camp during the summer months. Candidates should be prepared to support seasonal operations as needed. See below for specific qualifications and additional duties related to these assignments.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven work experience as a cashier or in a customer service role is preferred.
  • Mathematical skills and the ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with cash register or POS systems.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations is a plus.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Flexible availability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to follow work direction and work as a part of a team
  • Ability to adapt to workplace and work load changes
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with regards to work orders and time keeping
  • Help with setups when needed
  • Properly vacuum carpet and dust mop and wet mop hard floors
  • Ability to keep bathrooms clean and sanitized and stocked
  • Identifies issues with buildings and equipment and requests work orders
