Description of Position
P Assistant - Catering
Reporting to the Executive Chef of Catering, the catering/prep cook, will assist with campus catering needs on on-going basis. The catering/prep cook, exemplifies and provides professional customer service that will result in high quality experience for Yavapai College Catering Services.
Typical Duties include:

  • Assists and prepares and serves quality food and beverage items for variety of in-house customers and events
  • Assists with food services ranging from large catered events to small groups, including preparation, setup service and cleanup
  • Participates in maintaining a clean, safe, well-functioning kitchens and food service environment
  • Ensures that all public areas are neat and clean
  • Ensures that events are welcoming and supportive of customers
  • Reports repair and maintenance needs to Executive Chef of Catering
  • Anticipates & acknowledges guests needs at all times
  • Informs Executive Chef of any guest complaints or concerns
  • Monitors inventory, receives deliveries by checking food and material goods against specifications, purchase order invoices, as needed under direction of Executive Chef
  • Performs duties as assigned
Cleaning Standards
  • Use, maintain & thoroughly wash, clean, and sanitize all food preparation dishes, pans, surfaces, equipment, utensils & storage areas & containers; including floors, floor drains, sinks, hand sinks, walls, ceilings, counters and shelves. Clean & restock the servers line(s) on a continual basis throughout shift
  • Empty all trash recptacles and bring all trash bags to the outside dumpsters that exceed 25 pounds
  • Keep the kitchen event spaces clean and free of debris at all times; including floors, walls, ceilings and all counters & shelves; regardless ofof where they are located in the kitchen' to ensure a clean and safe operating environment for all Team Members & guests
  • Pick up anything on the floor that could cause an unsafe condition for anyone
  • Sweep all floors in the appropriate work area
  • Clean & sanitize all work table services, equipment, utensils, and pots and pans using proper approved cleaning solutions
Minimum Expectations & Requirements

-Knowledge, skills and abilities
-Knowledge of safe food handling practices
-knowledge of hygiene and sanitary regulations governing the handling, preparation and serving of food
-Knowledge of safety hazards while working with kitchen equipment and chemicals in the work environment
-Knowledge of standard measures
-Knowledge of report preparation and file maintenance and inventory practices
-Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
-Ability to understand and practice high levels of customer service
-Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with associates and customers
-Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, customers, volunteers and the general public
-Ability to make decisions in accordance with recognized policies and procedures
-Ability to relate to the customers and act as an advocate
-Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation
-Ability to multi-task
-Enjoy being part of a team
-Arizona food handler's card or ability to obtain within the first 30 days of hire
-Previous experience in a restaurant environment including knowledge of safe and effective food handling processes, inventory, cash handling and customer service practices
-Current valid driver's license
-Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
-Confident, professional and welcoming personality
Preferred Skills & Abilities

-Associates Degree or higher in Culinary, Hospitality or related field
-Professional experience working in food related & customer service industry
