Hiring Salary: $54,612.74 annually

Pay Grade: 110-S

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Full Pay Range: $54,612.74 to $81,918.83 annually

Firefighter Paramedics are eligible for additional pay after successful completion of the academy:

Paramedic Hiring Salary: $66,610.25 annually

Full Pay Range: $66,610.25 to $93,912 annually

Requirements:

This position requires the following minimum requirements:

• 18 years of age at the time of application
• Valid Driver's License
• High School Diploma or GED
• Current Arizona State or Nationally Registered Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic. (Card must be uploaded in application for acceptance)
• A current Candidate CPAT (June 28, 2024 - June 27, 2025) (Proof must be uploaded in application for acceptance)
• Successful completion of City of Prescott sponsored recruit academy. Recruits receive full pay and benefits during the academy.

Special Requirements Upon Job Offer:

Selected applicants must pass as a condition of employment:

• Department's approved physical. Must meet NFPA 1582 standards for medical and physical fitness.
• Drug screening
• Motor vehicle records check
• Criminal background screening
• Public safety specific psychological evaluation

Essential Duties (Including but not limited to):

• Responds to emergency calls and performs emergency medical service by using various equipment and gear for fire suppression and control, searching for and rescuing occupants, ventilating structures, salvaging contents, extinguishing fires, and providing emergency medical services. Responds to non-emergency calls and public service activities.
• Performs other activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment.
• Performs emergency first aid and other emergency aid tasks.
• Participates in regular training, drills, and classes related to all aspects of emergency response and mitigation.
• Participates in all aspects of fire prevention and inspections.
• Maintains fire equipment, apparatus, and facilities.
• Work includes significant public contact, including presenting public education programs in the community.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Post City Sponsored Academy:

• Knowledge of professional firefighting methods, practices, procedures.
• Knowledge of fire suppression and prevention methods, fire behavior and fire chemistry.
• Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques, and practices of hazardous material control/clean-up
• Knowledge of streets, addresses, geographical locations, and water systems throughout the city.
• Knowledge of the use and purpose of a variety of specialized equipment, tools, and apparatus used in fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, hazardous materials, and technical rescue situations.
• Knowledge of principles of fluid hydraulics and maintaining nozzle pressure; proper documentation practices for medical emergency supplies, equipment, and apparatus.
• Knowledge of duties and responsibilities of firefighters on shift.
• Knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, and repair of all equipment.
• Knowledge of first aid, CPR and other basic and/or advanced emergency medical care techniques and methods.
• Knowledge of trauma and medical emergencies.
• Knowledge of drug administration and drug calculations.
• Skill in Responding rapidly and appropriately to emergency situations.
• Skill in operating fire apparatus, pumps, and related equipment used in fire suppression operations.
• Skill in applying emergency medical assistance, including CPR and first aid; performing strenuous work under adverse conditions for an extended period.
• Skill in the safe and proper operation of equipment and tools.
• Skill in remaining calm under adverse conditions, making sound judgments concerning life and property under pressure.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with business owners/managers, other Fire department staff, and the public.
• Ability to sufficiently meet NFPA 1001 and 1582 standards.
• Ability to perform duties effectively and safely, operate required vehicles, equipment, and machines.
• Ability to read handwritten and typewritten material.
• Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in person, over the radio, and telephone.

Written Exam and Video Interview:

• The City of Prescott Fire Department will be utilizing Public Safety Answers for the written portion of the exam and initial virtual interview. Applications will be reviewed weekly as they come in, and a link will be sent to qualified applicants to complete the online exam.

• Testing reviewed and notification of oral board invitation July 9, 2025

Interview Process:

• Candidates selected during the written and virtual interview portion will be invited to an in-person interview during the week of July 14, 2025
• Candidates selected during the in-person interview will be invited to a Final Fire Chief's Interview. Interviews will be held the week of July 21, 2025

New hire academy:

• Candidates selected for hiring will attend a 16-week academy starting September 2, 2025.
• As a condition of employment, successful completion of the academy is required; candidates must pass and receive the following certifications provided in the academy. If the candidate is already certified, they will not need to take the state testing. The candidate will still be required to take the training and fully participate during the academy.   • Arizona Firefighter I & II certification. If you currently have this certification, it must be through a state, federal, or accredited agency (EX: AZ, IFSAC, DOD OR PRO BOARD)
  • Arizona Hazardous Materials for 1st Responders certification. If currently have this certification, it must be through a state, federal, or accredited agency (EX: AZ, IFSAC, DOD OR PRO BOARD)
  • NWCG Basic Wildland Firefighter
