Summary

Under the supervision of the Community Services Manager (CSM), the Education Division Director manages all operational activities and provides leadership for the Ak-Chin Indian Community Educational system, including the Ak-Chin Education Department, Ak-Chin Early Childhood Development, and Ak-Chin Language Program. This role oversees the Division of Instruction's effective operation, focusing on curriculum development, staff training, and acting as a liaison between the community and external school districts.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Education from an accredited institution and at least ten (10) years of progressive experience in education administration or school leadership; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Must have a valid driver's license, meet insurance requirements, and pass a background check. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Education Administration and Supervision, with a minimum of ten years of experience as a school administrator, including at least three years as a superintendent and some experience in education.

Examples of Duties

  • Provide vision, leadership, and direction for the community's education programs and services.
  • Supervise program managers, coordinators, and staff within the Education Division.
  • Oversee the Ak-Chin Language Program and staff development initiatives for language proficiency.
  • Implement accountability frameworks and ensure compliance with credentialing standards.
  • Manage data collection, financial data, and program evaluations.
  • Develop and oversee budgets for the department and related programs.
  • Promote professional development for staff.
  • Establish monitoring and evaluation systems.
  • Create and update job descriptions related to education programs.
  • Act as a liaison with community agencies and oversee recruitment processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting and compliance with community standards.

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of educational principles, program development, and current trends.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by Native American communities.
  • Expertise in curriculum development, special needs education, and accommodations.
  • Skills in policy development, conflict resolution, communication, and public relations.
  • Ability to evaluate programs, interpret data, manage budgets and personnel, and coordinate educational events.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
