**Job Description:**

****JOB SUMMARY:** This position willprimarily be a Dispatch position for the Willcox Transit Department. Under the general supervision of the Transit Manager, this position is responsible for the scheduling and coordination of vehicles and passenger trips; dispatch of vehicles; and participation in a variety of clerical tasks related to assigned area of work. Works a variety of hours and days of the week including Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and split shifts. Dispatchers will also assist the Transit Department in back up driving functions operating vehicles.**

****ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:****

(May not include all of the duties, nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)

- Customer Service., to include Listening and speaking clearly.

- Knowledge of local community and street system.

- Maintain written records of transit requests on computer and/or manually.

- Coordinate transit route schedule adherence and customer deviation services.

- Answer routine questions pertaining to the transit system and City services.

- Monitor and respond to a variety of calls professionally, including two-way radios and mobile phones; verify and monitor staff unit locations; record all service calls; prepare, prioritize, and relay transportation requests and follow safety standards and practices.

- Schedule daily bus routes in response to passenger service requests using computer spreadsheets, databases, and specialized programs.

- Review, organize and maintain trip manifests to maximize route efficiency.

- Brief drivers regarding daily trip manifest and relay any messages.

- Collect transit fares and distribute transit tickets; account for reconciliation of funds received; conduct appropriate cash controls; process new client applications.

- Prepare and maintain a variety of files, filing systems and computer database

- Respond to emergency situations as requested; coordinate with police and emergency personnel as required. Have knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures.

- Prepare a variety of correspondence, reports and documents as assigned, complete various forms.

- Coordinate with Fleet Services and drivers regarding vehicle maintenance and driver training.

- Take messages for transit drivers.

- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

****SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:** Bilingual (English/Spanish) Preferred. Certification/training requirements for the 5311 program.**

****MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** **:** High school diploma or GED; and five (5) years of clerical experience; Or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities of this classification. Must possess and maintain an Arizona Drivers License.**
